Technology has advanced significantly in recent years. This has been especially noticeable in the field of artificial intelligence, while new avenues for cyber-attacks have also been discovered. Of course, technology does not stand idle against this. One of these companies is Tesla. Tesla, which attaches great importance to security, continues to strengthen its systems by cooperating with white hat hackers. Finally, the electric car giant awarded 295 thousand dollars to hackers who hacked them. Here are the details…
Tesla gave prizes in the hacking contest
Organized by the Zero Day Initiative team of Trend Micro and held annually since April 2007, the hacking competition Pwn2Own took place in Tokyo, Japan, on January 24-26 this year. Many automotive companies participated in this great competition, including Tesla. The company offered great prizes to hackers.
Tesla has made its infotainment system and charging stations the target of hackers. Then, on the first day of the competition, a team called Synacktiv successfully hacked Tesla’s infotainment system. The company then offered a $100,000 prize.
The same team also successfully hacked the Ubiquiti Connect EV Station and JuiceBox 40 Smart EV Charging Station, earning an additional 120 thousand dollars. After a few more hacks, the group returned home at the end of the day with a total of $295,000 in prizes from Tesla. The Synacktiv team also hacked the electric vehicle giant last year and won a $100,000 prize. In this context, the name of the group is one of the names that come to mind when it comes to Tesla.
Many vehicle manufacturers, including Tesla, are solving potential vulnerabilities that could cause millions of dollars in damage by offering only a few hundred thousand dollars in prizes thanks to the hacking contest. The next hacking contest is eagerly awaited.
